ELVIS EARLY SELLOUT AT CAROLINA COLISEUM

alt

Elvis Presley ’s draw here hasn’t diminished. All 12,000 tickets to his Feb.18 one-nighter at Carolina Coliseum here were sold out within four hours after the box office opened for advance sales.

Around 1,500 had waited all night with blankets and sleeping bags protecting them from sub-freezing cold. Police counted as many as 3,000 in line at one time.

Some scalping was reported but crowd checks indicated most of the ducats went to fans. South Carolina law forbids reselling of tickets for more than $1 above face value, but officials here said it is difficult to enforce.

Presley last played this capital city 20 years ago. He is booked Feb 19 in Johnson City, Tenn., and at Charlotte Feb.20.
