THE BIG BEAT, BIG BEAT, BIG BEAT!

AND IT’S GOING TO GET YOU!

LOVE it, hate it, you’re going to get it – the BIG BEAT!

What you’ve heard of rock ‘n’ roll is nothing to what’s coming, and soon. For this belting, twitching rhythm has ceased to be an overnight craze.

It is big business. With millions involved. With a broader appeal to every girl and boy and mum and dad. And without riots.

I ‘phoned New York last night. In the top 40 discs issued by the 2,097 record companies, 23 are rock ‘n’ roll or rhythm and blues, big brother of the Pelvis beat.

And the experts can put the finger on another 20 rockin’ tunes heading for hit parade honours.

What sends American youth overboard discwise inevitably swamps British tastes soon after.

Example of the rock ‘n’ roll boom: ELVIS PRESLEY sang “Love Me Tender” on September 9th's Talk of the Town, ED SULLIVAN’S New York show.

Within hours the U.S. post offices were chocked with demands for a copy of this record – when Presley gets round to recording it.

To date over 1,000,000 orders totalling over £100,000 in value have been counted for a disc not yet cut! This is truly the greatest phenomenon show business has ever known.
