ELVIS ON BRITISH TV
Up in the north-east, the area division of the A.T.V’s Network (Tyne-Tees Television), produced a “Star Parade” programme devoted entirely to Elvis.
It was transmitted on January 30th, 1961, before a studio audience of 250 fans – the first time in the history of the programme that there had been a studio audience.
It showed Elvis at his very best, in no less than eight clippings from five of his films (“Love Me Tender”, “Loving You”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “King Creole” and “G.I. Blues”), and even in these short clips it was noticeable how Elvis had improved with the passing of time and experience.
The clippings used featured the songs: Love Me Tender, Loving You, Teddy Bear, Jailhouse Rock, King Creole, Trouble, Wooden Heart, Frankfort Special, and the best clipping by far was Wooden hear.
The whole programme was fabulous – like crazy!
